Digital Health Projectathon

Digital Health Projectathon 2026

The Digital Health Projectathon provides a unique opportunity for providers of eHealth solutions and IT-Systems for healthcare institutions, laboratories and EPR communities to test the compatibility of their service with the national exchange formats based on international standards, national projects from the DigiSanté programme, the EPR and AGOV.

Sharing with open standards

This year, the Digital Health Projectathon will take place online from the 22nd to the 23rd of September 2026 from 9AM to 5PM. eHealth Suisse’s reference environment will serve as the common testing environment. The new Terminology Server of the federal administration, which will also be used for the future Swiss Health Data Space, can be tested for the first time. As usual, the relevant technical profiles for the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) will be available for testing. For the second year, the Federal Chancellery and eHealth Suisse organise the testing for the national electronic identity (eID) and the AGOV authority login service (authentication service for Swiss authorities). Registration will open on the 1st of June 2026 and are free of charge this year.

Organisers

The Digital Health Projectathon is organised by eHealth Suisse in collaboration with the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and IHE Suisse. The AGOV testing is organised by the Federal Chancellery and eHealth Suisse.

Terminology Server for the future Swiss Health Data Space (SwissHDS), a service of the federal administration, will function as an independent entity within a peer-to-peer test architecture. Five test cases focusing exclusively on standardised queries to the server are planned. The participating companies' requests will be sent to the terminology server via the reference environment's proxy: The results can then be observed and compared. The objective is to evaluate the effective implementation of terminology services that adhere to standards in practical integration scenarios. The test cases include the following standardised FHIR terminology operations:

  • $expand: explicit listing of codes from ValueSets that can be used in practice
  • $validate-code: checking codes against ValueSets and CodeSystems
  • $lookup: full resolution and additional information on a concept in the CodeSystem
  • $translate: mapping of codes between two systems using ConceptMaps.

EPR Communities, platform providers, providers of IT solutions for healthcare institutions and other firms can test the interoperability of their solution with the specifications of the national exchange formats. Registrations to test any national exchange formats is formally done by registering for the EPR tests. However, national exchange formats work outside of the EPR-framework.

EPR Communities, platform providers, providers of IT solutions for healthcare institutions and other firms can test the interoperability of their solution with the EPR specifications. This testing is an opportunity for intensive knowledge-sharing and represent a steep learning curve for everyone.

The tests focus on all the IHE profiles needed for EPR – in particular, the IHE profiles specific to Switzerland known as national extensions. In this way, organisations can prepare themselves for the adoption of EPR in practice as well as for future developments in EPR functionalities.

The list of EPR-profiles available for testing at the Projectathon will be publish in May 2026.

The AGOV authority login service (authentication service for Swiss authorities) will be available for testing at the event. This is being organised by eHealth Suisse together with the Federal Chancellery. The aim is to enable EPR communities and cantons (respectively their technical providers) to test AGOV with or without an embedded e-ID-Software.

Practical information for testers (vendors)

Registration to the testing event is free of charge. Organisations are given an access to the testing environment of the Digital Health Projectathon after the designated contract has been signed.

The registration process takes place on Gazelle and opens on the 1st of June 2026.

Webinars are held in June to explain the registration process and answer any questions from interesting organisations.

Registered organisations can start their online pre-testing on the Reference Environment from 1st July 2026. This way, organisations can prepare their solutions during the summer and concentrate on peer-to-peer and group testing during the Digital Health Projectathon. The “connectivity testing” is mandatory for all registered vendors to ensure their systems are ready for the Projectathon.

Are you a first timer at the Digital Health Projectathon or are you still unsure how the testing process works on the Gazelle platform? IHE Catalyst presents the Gazelle Platform and answers your questions during the introductory webinar.

Those webinars will be held according to demand. Please send us an email at Externer Link: info@e-health-suisse.ch if you are interested to participate.
