Reference environment

The reference environment is a comprehensive testing system that enables providers of eHealth solutions and IT systems for healthcare facilities, laboratories and EPR communities to verify the compatibility of their services with national exchange formats based on international standards, national projects under the DigiSanté programme, the EPR and the AGOV/national e-ID service, using simulators, validators and other tools and support. For their part, communities under the Federal Act on the EPR can use the platform to prepare for the (re-)certification required by law.

It is accessible all year round and can be used free of charge. It is based on the open-source international Gazelle platform from IHE International and, in addition to the standard IHE tests and tools, has also implemented requirements specific to Switzerland.

Since 2017, a test week known as the ‘Digital Health Projectathon’ (formerly the EPR Projectathon) has been held once a year, to which the communities’ software suppliers, primary system manufacturers and other stakeholders are invited to test their implementations against other participants’ products and the reference environment.
